Here’s an extra helping of Junior Wells, this time in Portugal at the 1978 Algarve Jazz Festival. The band includes Buddy Guy and Jimmy Johnson on guitars, Dave Myers on bass, and Odie Payne on drums. Junior was an exceptional blues singer, and he’s in great form in this rendition of “Drivin’ Wheel,” the Roosevelt Sykes original that Wells’ boyhood friend Junior Parker brought into the modern blues repertoire in the ’60’s.
